Sea Soap Bar: Irish seaweed & winter showers

Sea Soap Bar: Irish seaweed, winter showers & why this one’s still a best seller

I’m a bit sniffly and under the weather this week, and it got me thinking about the bars I reach for when I want my shower to feel extra fresh and comforting.

One I always come back to is one of the first products I ever launched… and it’s still a best seller to this day: my Sea Soap Bar.

One of the very first (and still one of the most loved)

When I started Janni Bars, I didn’t want to make “just another soap”. I wanted bars that felt connected to nature, were genuinely useful, and made it easier to switch away from plastic bottles.

The Sea Soap Bar has always ticked those boxes.

What makes it different: Irish carrageen seaweed

This bar is loaded with Irish carrageen seaweed.

Here’s how it happens in my workshop:

  • I buy the seaweed dry

  • I make it into a seaweed moss/gel

  • Then I blitz it in when I’m mixing the soap batter

That means you’ll often see little bits of seaweed through the bar — it’s not a “perfectly uniform factory bar”, it’s a handmade one.

A little sea salt = a harder, longer-lasting bar

I also add a small amount of sea salt. The goal is simple: a harder bar that holds up well and lasts nicely (especially if you let it dry between uses).

The scent: peppermint + orange

The Sea Soap Bar is scented with:

  • Peppermint essential oil

  • Orange essential oil

It’s fresh, clean, and properly uplifting.

The shower-steam moment (the easiest kind of aromatherapy)

Use it in a warm shower and the scent really comes alive — peppermint + orange in steam is one of those “deep breath” combinations that makes the whole bathroom feel clearer and brighter.

If you’re feeling a bit meh, it’s such a simple little lift.

If you love that vibe, you might also like…

If you’re after a similar wake-up-your-senses shower, my Turmeric Soap Bar with Eucalyptus gives that same fresh, steamy, spa-ish feel.

A quick tip to make any soap bar last longer

If you’re new to bars (or yours ever goes a bit soft), this is the one thing that makes the biggest difference:

  • Let it dry fully between uses (a draining soap dish is your best friend)

As always, thank you for supporting a tiny Irish business. It genuinely means the world.
