A fresh new look for Janni Bars — and why it's happening in stages
There's something a little vulnerable about changing your packaging. It's one of the most visible things about a brand — the thing a customer picks up, turns over in their hands, reads in a shop or sees on a screen before they've ever tried the product itself. So when I decided it was time for a new look, I wanted to get it right.
Here's the honest story of what's changing, why, and why you might spot both old and new out in the world for a little while yet.
Why now?
Two things happened at once, and they pointed in the same direction.
The first is that the range has grown. What started as a handful of bars has become a full collection — shampoo bars, conditioner bars, body wash bars, artisan soaps — and the original packaging, which I loved at the time, wasn't doing enough to help customers find their way around it. When someone picks up a bar, they should know instantly what it does and whether it's right for them. The old look made them work a little harder than they should have had to.
The second thing is simpler: the brand has evolved, and the packaging needed to catch up. Janni Bars has a clearer identity now — what it stands for, how it feels, who it's for. The new look reflects that. It's warmer, more considered, easier to read at a glance. It feels like the brand I always had in my head, finally on paper.
It's not just the look that's been updated, though. A couple of the products themselves have had some thoughtful tweaks too, and I want to be open about that.
Freya is now Softening Shampoo Bar — and in this run, she's had a meaningful upgrade: cashmere extract is now part of the formula. It adds a real softness and slip to the lather that I'm genuinely thrilled with. It does mean that this bar is no longer vegan, so if that matters to you, I wanted to make sure you knew.
And coming in the next run — two of the conditioner bars will be moving to new scents. I want to be honest: we loved the original scents. But as the range has grown, it made more sense to pair each conditioner more closely with its shampoo companion, so everything works together intuitively. For anyone who's been using the range for a while, it's a small change. For someone new coming to Janni Bars for the first time, it'll just make sense straight away — and that matters to me.
Why is it happening in stages?
This is the part I want to be upfront about, because you may well receive a bar in the old packaging, or see both versions side by side for a while.
The honest answer is two things: existing stock and cost. Reprinting everything at once isn't practical for a small handmade brand — it doesn't make sense financially, and it would mean letting good product go to waste. So I'm working through existing stock and rolling out the new look range by range as I go.
It means the transition is gradual. I appreciate your patience with that — and I promise, whatever packaging it arrives in, the bar inside is exactly the same.
What's coming
Over the coming months, the full Janni Bars range will move across to the new look. I'm really excited about how it's all coming together and I can't wait for you to see the whole thing side by side.
