A Fresh Chapter for Honey Balm & Face Balm: New Packaging, Same Great Balms
After months of planning, testing, and a few stressful moments, I’m finally able to share something I’ve been looking forward to for ages—our Honey Balm and Face Balm have brand new packaging! This isn’t just a change for the sake of it; it’s the result of a lot of thought, hard work, and a genuine desire to make Janni Bars products even better for you, for shops, and for the planet.
Why Change the Packaging?
If you’ve been with Janni Bars for a while, you know I’m always looking for ways to improve—whether it’s the formulas, the ingredients, or the way our products reach you. The old jars, while functional, just weren’t shop-ready. They didn’t have space for barcodes, which made things tricky for retail partners, and more importantly, they were often getting damaged in transit. There’s nothing worse than putting time and care into making a balm, only for it to arrive dented or leaking. That’s not the experience I want for you—or for the environment, since damaged goods often mean unnecessary waste.

The New Look: Practical, Eco-Friendly, and Eye-Catching
After a lot of research (and a fair bit of trial and error), I settled on a green frosted glass jar with a black aluminium lid. Both materials are widely recyclable, which fits perfectly with our commitment to sustainability. The jars also look fantastic—sleek, modern, and, if I’m honest, pretty gorgeous on my own bathroom shelf!

Instead of the usual cardboard box, I decided to go for a round tube made entirely from paper. Why round? Well, I wanted the packaging to stand out, but also to tie in with the “bubbles” theme that runs through so many Janni Bars products. The round shape feels fun, different, and just a little bit special—plus, it keeps the jar safe in transit and looks great on the shelf. The paper tube is fully biodegradable and breaks down in about 20 days (which is actually quicker than an apple core—yes, I checked!). This extra layer means your balm arrives safe and sound, with less risk of damage in the post, and it stands out beautifully in shops.
Behind the Scenes: The Realities of a Small Business Upgrade
Redesigning packaging as a one-woman business is no small feat. From choosing the right materials to working with The Factory in Birr on the design (a huge thank you to them for bringing my vision to life!), every step involved a lot of decisions, back-and-forth, and, honestly, a bit of stress. In fact, between myself and The Factory, we exchanged 75 emails just for this project alone! That’s a lot of late-night questions, design tweaks, and double-checking every little detail to make sure the end result would be just right.
