Biogard 221 is a preservative. Eventhough our shampoo does not contain water we like to use preservative to make them safe to use in a wet environment like your shower. Biogard helps to prevent mould and bacteria from growing on your bar. There are no fully natural preservatives on the market, so we have to use a synthetic, hence our bars being 99% natural, but we chose Biogard because it is ECOCERT certified so approved for natural products. Biogard will read: Dehydroacetic acid, Benzyl alcohol on your ingredients list.
